HCS Multimedia Tutorials Converting AVI Files to RealMedia
Introduction: The RealProducer G2 can convert an AVI file to the RealMedia file format. There are
several advantages to the RealMedia file format. RealMedia is a common format that is used to stream
video over the Internet. A large percentage of the computers connected to the Internet have software that
is capable of playing RealMedia files. Also, depending on your connection RealMedia can recognize the
speed of your connection and determine which file is appropriate for you to download.
1.
Open RealProducer G2:
Click on the Start Menu.
Open
Select Programs.
RealProducer
Select Multimedia Applications.

Select RealProducer G2.

A New Session window will open at the
beginning of the program.
Enter the Input
This window is divided into two halves. The
and Output
left side is called Import Source and the
locations.
right side is called Output.
Enter the Input and Output locations:
 Click on the Browse button at the
bottom of the Input Source section.
 Locate the AVI file you will be
converting and then click the Open
button.
 Click on the Save as button at the top of
the Output section.
 Select a location in which you would
like to save the file.
 Give the file a name and click the Save
button. This will place you back at the
New Session window.
 Click the OK button.

Select a target audience:
 Make sure that the 56K Modem and
File in the
Corporate Lan check boxes are
needed

RealProducer Plus click the Cancel button.

 Enter you name in the Author field.
 Provide a name for the clip in the Title

 Provide a description of the clip in the
Description field.
Check the Audio Format and Video
Quality section:
 Make sure that the drop down menu for
the Audio Format is set to the
appropriate settings for your clip. In
most cases you will want it set to Stereo
Music.
 Make sure that the drop down menu for
the Video Quality is set to the
appropriate settings for your clip. In
almost all cases you will want it set to
Normal Motion Video.
Click the Start button in the Recording
Controls section when ready.
Note: It will take a little while for the clip
to record to the RealMedia file format.

sure that you have a copy of it your web
directory
 Create a link to the file on the web page
that you want it linked to. Directions

FrontPage.
Note: The RealMedia file will not stream if
it is put into your web directory on the
HAAS web server. It will still work it just
has to download to your local computer and
then open instead of being opened on the
server. There is little noticeable speed
difference on a computer in HCS Lab but
there will be a noticeable difference on a
computer with a slower internet connection.
