Introduction: The most efficient way to convert a paper document into an electronic document is to use
OmniPage Pro 9.0. OmniPage Pro 9.0 is an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program designed for
scanning text. Scanning text with Adobe PhotoShop will not work because the text would be in the form
of an image file.
1.
Open OmniPage Pro 9.0:
 Click on the Start Menu.
Open
 Select Programs.
OmniPage
 Select Multimedia Applications.
 Select OmniPage Pro 9.0.

To begin scanning click the OK button.
Close the Tip of
the Day window
to begin
scanning.

Click on the Auto button located at the left
side of the window. This will launch the

 Scan in black in white
(most common choice)
 Scan in grayscale
 Scan in color
Click the Next button.

 Single Column
 Multiple Columns
 Spreadsheet
 Mixed Page Layout
Note: Refer to your document to see which
option best summarizes it's formatting.
Click the Next button.

Select the written language most
prevalent on the document you will be
scanning. (E.g. English, Spanish, etc.)
Also place a check in the two boxes that
refer to spending extra time and looking
for tables.
Click the Next button.

Select Using settings for the highest
accuracy.
Important: It is easier to spell check in
Microsoft Word but be sure and remember
to do it after the document has been
scanned.
Click the Next button.

Select Save to disk.
Note: This refers to saving to your H
drive, but you can save it to a floppy
or zip disk later.
Select Retain graphics if possible.

File Names: It is best to keep file names
short (less than 9 characters) and
descriptive. Use only lower case letters and
do not put spaces between characters.
Note: Make sure that you save it in rich
text format because OmniPage does a much
better job of retaining format if saved in
rich text format.

After you save the document in rich text
