What You Need to Know About Microsoft Office 2007
Where is it installed?
The latest version of Office is now available on Haas’ terminal servers (ts, rts), Computer Center lab computers, Computer Center classroom computers, and Cheit’s classroom lecterns.
What’s New?
Microsoft made significant changes to Office 2007. All of the program menus are new and use what Microsoft refers to as the “Ribbon Interface.” Microsoft added some new applications to the Office 2007 suite in addition to Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access. Haas Computing Services provides online materials to help you get acquainted with Office 2007. Visit the HCS Web Site to obtain this information at http://groups.haas.berkeley.edu/HCS/training.html. You can also find hardcopies of some of these materials at the front desk in the Bakar Computer Center.

Impact
If you use Office 2007 in any of the locations mentioned above, your documents will automatically be saved in the Office 2003 format. This ensures that your saved documents are compatible with the older versions of Office.
Note: First year MBA students have had Office 2007 installed on their laptops.
If you currently use Office 2003 on Windows XP, you can upgrade to Office 2007 without upgrading to Vista. Office 2007 will work with both Windows XP and Vista. Please contact Help Desk if you would like to schedule an upgrade to Office 2007.
Even if you continue to use Office 2003, you will be able to open Office 2007 documents if you download and install a conversion program. You can find the conversion program, called the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, at Microsoft’s web site:

Known Problems:
In Excel 2007, the Regression Tool in the Analysis ToolPak does not display residual and line fit plots correctly. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a solution. In the meantime, a temporary fix was released. For additional information regarding the issue and the workaround, please see:

Office 2007 vs. “Vista Office”
Some people at Haas erroneously refer to Office 2007 as “Vista Office.” Please note that the recently introduced Vista operating system is not a requirement for Office 2007. There is no such thing as “Vista Office.”
