Research Computing Resources


Research computing accounts are available to Haas Faculty,  PhD students, Visiting Faculty, and Visiting Scholars upon request.  Contact the HCS Help Desk to establish a Research Computing Account.


HCS provides consulting on how to develop mathematical models and use the supported research software.


The supported research software on the Research Servers is installed and maintained by HCS, and currently includes:

Data Display Debugger
GNU G77 Fortran compiler
GNU Gcc C/C++ compiler
Matlab
Pico
Pine
Stata (command-line version)
Stata–SE (command-line version, Special Edition)
Xstata (graphical version)
Xstata–SE (graphical version, Special Edition)
Stat/Transfer
teTeX
SAS


New applications are installed on the Research Servers upon request only if sufficient funding is identified  and available. 


The primary Research Server is named Bear, and has the address bear.haas.berkeley.edu . Bear is a 10-node Linux cluster connected to 18TB of storage. Each node has dual 3GHz Xeon processors and 8GB of memory.
