The mission of the Fisher Center for the Strategic
Use of Information Technology is to advance the field
of information technology and management by supporting
and strengthening research, instruction, and corporate
partnerships which address current information and
technology management challenges. The Center serves
professional and academic communities of interest in
information technology by promoting dynamic interactions
between corporate practice, research, and instruction,
and by encouraging the professional development of
participating information technology professionals,
students, and faculty. These interactions are facilitated
in conferences and projects which address issues, trends
and business opportunities in strategic and innovative
uses of information and information technology.
The Fisher Center will carry out this mission by:
- working
with Berkeley faculty, academic units, and other
research centers to maximize opportunities for
research and interdisciplinary studies in information
technology and management;
- developing
and administering grants, contracts, and gifts
for research, instruction, and public service
on behalf of faculty, academic units, and programs;
- enhancing
instruction in information technology and management
by introducing the key challenges of public policy
and practical problems of corporate practice
to the classroom and curriculum;
- assisting
corporations and corporate officers in meeting
the challenges of technological and business
change by providing conferences and other venues
for collaboration, by bringing current research
results to bear on practical problems, and by
developing original research, cases and tools
which provide solutions;
- advancing
the disciplines of information technology and
management by making the results of the Center’s
research and collaborative activities broadly available;
and
- encouraging
professional development and creating professional
opportunities for the executives, faculty, and
students involved in the Center by promoting
interactions between them.
