(ADDITIONAL STARTLINGS! STILL UNDER WORKS)
Startlings are amazing statements about how the world is managed today, from one of the meanings of "start": to set someone on the beginning of a voyage."
"Nationalism - the belief and practice of the supreme importance of one's nation in financial, marketing, health, and military matters, is a world management disease, which kills and maims millions of humans every year and places millions of others in a lifetime of misery. It has hardly been touched by such organizations as the United Nations, which has to struggle with the meager aide given to its survival by the nations now most suffering from the disease. It is one of the many greed diseases which to date has no cure and few studying it.
We're not trying to be arrogant in these startlements. According to our Random House Dictionary (1967) a "disease" is "any deranged or depraved condition, as of the mind, society, etc." and "depraved" means "corrupt, wicked or perverted." Few can deny that the wars we have today that are caused by nationalism satisfy the conditions for depravity.
And: no one is to blame; just we: what should we do? Where should we find the ethical motion to do anything? Reading our lectures may help. Try them.
But is nationalism the correct way to manage a world for a species that's fundamentally intelligent and social? If not, what else?
