 GSR Information

GSR Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 units in 100, 200, 300 or 400 series by no later than the 3rd week of classes

  • Have a 3.1 GPA or higher

  • Must be in good academic standing (may not be on academic probation or have your degree candidacy lapse)

  • No more than 2 Incomplete grades in upper division or graduate courses

  • May not be on Filing Fee status

  • Must be a registered graduate student at the University of California

Fee Remissions:

  • Eligible appointments greater than or equal to 25% time and extended during the duration of the academic semester, qualifies an appointed GSR to receive a Partial Fee Remission if the hiring faculty member chooses to cover the expense.

  • Eligible appointments greater or equal to 45% time qualifies and extended during the duration of the academic semester, qualifies an appointed GSR to receive a Full Fee Remission if the hiring faculty member chooses to cover the expense.

  • Make sure you have your faculty sponsor's consent to paying your fee remission on the application form.

Getting Paid:

  • Your monthly compensation will be in the form of a manual check which you can pick up at S549, or electronic transfer if you signed up for direct deposit (to sign up log in with your Calnet ID at blu.berkeley.edu)

  • Your Fee Remission (if you qualify for one), will be directly applied to your CARS account.

For Hiring Faculty Members:

If you would like to appoint a graduate student to work as your GSR, please send me the following information:

  • First and Last name of the graduate student
  • Email address of the graduate student
  • The begin and end dates of the GSR appointment
  • The total amount of salary compensation you would like the GSR to be paid
  • Should the appointment include a partial or full fee remission
  • The chart-string that is to be utilized to pay for your GSR's salary and fee remission

Please be reminded that GSR's are salaried employee's and will be paid on the first of each month.!!
