Interview Questions

Doing well in interviews requires plenty of practice. Review these questions prior to your mock interviews with your 2nd year Career Coach and Mentor. Additional questions can be found through the Career Services Office.

1. Walk me through your resume.
2. Why did you go to business school? Why Haas?
3. What classes have you taken? What have been your favorites? Least favorite? Why?
4. What have you learned in class that will make you a better investment analyst?
5. Why are you considering investment management?
6. Tell me about things you do to demonstrate that you’re serious about this industry.
7. What skills do you bring to the table?
8. Tell me how you would analyze a company and contrast it versus its competitors.
9. What do you look for in a company (i.e. financial ratios, competitive landscape, industry factors)?
10. How do you value a company?
11. Tell me about your investment philosophy.
12. Tell me about an investing book you are currently reading.
13. Why do you want to work for us?
14. Tell me about several events/trends, etc. that are affecting the market.
15. If you only had 5 questions, what would you ask a management team?
16. What is the difference between value and growth?
17. If you could only pick one stock to invest in for the next 10 years, which company would you choose and why?
18. What was your worst investment idea? Why did it fail? What did you learn?
19. Explain to me the difference between cyclical and growth industries, and how they are affected by external factors.
