Kathryn Wendell
Co-President
In her most recent position, Kathryn Wendell worked as a Junior Professional Associate in the World Bank's Sustainable Development Department. She collaborated with government counterparts throughout Latin America to develop environmental projects addressing biodiversity conservation and climate change issues. Many of the projects involved forming public-private partnerships and bringing together multiple stakeholders - from indigenous groups to corporate leaders - to achieve the desired environmental and economic objectives.
Prior to working at the World Bank, Kathryn helped to start-up the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association in Washington, D.C. to promote more business investments in developing countries. Kathryn was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador from 2002-2004. She organized a savings cooperative for women in her community while playing a leading role in developing Peace Corps Ecuador's new small business initiative. Before Peace Corps, Kathryn worked as a loan officer for ACCION Texas, a microfinance organization that provides credit to low-income microentrepreneurs.
Kathryn received an M.A. in Cultural Anthropology at Yale in 2002, and she graduated cum laude with honors from Dartmouth College in 2000. Her thesis research at both institutions focused on the impacts of mining companies' social responsibility initiatives in the Andes region of South America.
Hannah Davies
VP Marketing & Communications
Hannah comes from the UK, where she gained 11 years' experience in Marketing and Communications within the public and non-profit sector.
Her most recent role was as Head of Marketing and Communications for a regional English police force. Her role included the management of the police press office and the development of a new marketing and communications function to increase stakeholder engagement and improve the police's reputation. Hannah started her career working for a community foundation before moving to the education sector. Prior to North Yorkshire Police, Hannah was Head of Marketing and Communications for South Tyneside College. She created a new marketing department, developed internal and external communications and established a student recruitment strategy to help bring the college back to financial health.
Hannah came to Haas Business School to pursue her desire to move into Corporate Social Responsibility within the private sector. Specializing in CSR and Marketing at Haas, she is particularly interested in corporate communications and the power of business to create positive social change. As VP of Marketing and Communications for Net Impact, she is enjoying the opportunity to use her experience to good effect in promoting the work of the club, keeping members in touch with news and opportunities and spreading the Net Impact word to prospective students and the wider community.
Jesse Nishinaga
VP Finance
Prior to Haas, Jesse spent five years working as an inventory management specialist for the San Francisco-based specialty apparel retailer, Gap, Inc. During his tenure at Gap, Inc., he served on a two-and-a-half-year expatriate assignment in Tokyo, Japan, where he helped to integrate two key business functions into the local corporate infrastructure and managed the Gap Japan Baby Apparel and Men's Accessories businesses. While living in Tokyo, Jesse also co-founded Net Impact Tokyo, the first professional Net Impact chapter in Japan, to provide a platform for professionals in this region to share their innovative ideas on how to make a positive impact on society through the power of business.
Jesse's professional interests range from issues related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the public role of private enterprise to public policy issues related to education, healthcare, labor, and human rights. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley and was a California Japanese American Alumni Association Scholar. Originally from Redondo Beach, CA, in his free time, Jesse enjoys golfing, reading, traveling, collecting maps, and watching college sports. Go Bears!
Nirosha Wickremasinghe
VP Partnerships - Liaison for Center of Non-Profit
Nirosha is a dual-degree student in the MBA/MPH Class of 2010 at Haas. Prior to Haas, Nirosha worked in health care advertising for Cline Davis Mann, where she managed Pfizer's Helpful Answers brand - a philanthropy program for providing medicines to the uninsured. Her interests are in social sector and public-private efforts to address disparities in health care quality and access. Net Impact has provided her with a strong network of like-minded students and opportunities for expanding this knowledge base. Nirosha received her A.B in Cognitive Neuroscience from Harvard College.
Katie Swinerton
VP Partnerships - Liaison for Center for Responsible Business
Katie worked at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) from September 2005 through June 2008 as a member of its consulting team, working closely with companies in the oil and gas, consumer goods and retail industries on projects focused on CSR and sustainability strategies, measuring the impacts of social investments, engaging stakeholders through online platforms, developing CSR reports, and engaging SRI research organizations and funds.
Katie supported BSR's role as co-secretariat of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, a tripartite dialogue of extractive companies, governments and NGOs focused on human rights, security and corporate social responsibility. Katie also contributed to BSR's innovative work in responsible supply chain management through BSR's "Beyond Monitoring" framework. Prior to joining BSR, Katie worked as an editor in educational publishing and held intern positions with U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, Human Rights Watch and the San Francisco Bar Association. Katie holds a B.A. in International Relations from Stanford University, where she focused on cross-sector approaches to international development and studied abroad in Paris, France.
Katie hopes to pursue a career in embedding sustainability and CSR into core corporate business strategies. As a member of the Net Impact leadership team, she seeks to catalyze interest in responsible business amongst her MBA colleagues and expand her circle of socially minded peers.
