You will need to choose a county in order to find individual schools. If you reside in Berkeley, choose “Alameda” as your county.
Childcare
Good childcare can be difficult to find in any city. There are a number of options in the Bay Area. Here, we’ve listed a few.
UC Berkeley Childcare Students with infants ages 3-31 months and children 32 months to seven years old are eligible for University Day Care. This service is relatively inexpensive; however, the wait list is about one year. Generally, only students whose partners work or whose partners are also students themselves will obtain a spot. Children with at least one non-working parent are given lower priority. If you would like to have your child in University Day Care, place your child on the wait list as soon as possible. Do not wait to accept your offer – apply right away!
Family Resource Center: University Village Residents can leave their children at the Family Resource Center for two to three hours free of charge. It is, however, required that at least one parent be present in University Village (at home, in the computer center or in the gym) while the child is at the center.
Private Daycare: It is very difficult to find private daycare for infants. There are more possibilities for children older than two or three years. You can expect private daycare to cost $42 a day and up.
Bananas Is a childcare referral service and support agency located in Berkeley since 1973. They provide assistance with a wide range of topics, from tips on raising your child to choosing and screening potential daycare providers.
UCB Parents Is a web site created to give a parent-to-parent advice. Joint the mailing list to receive information about childcare, nannies, tutoring or any kind of recommendation you want.
