About Berkeley Real Estate Club

For a one-page description of BREC in PDF format, click here.

The Berkeley Real Estate Club (BREC) at the Haas School of Business is the oldest of the student-managed clubs associated with the MBA program. With approximately 90 members drawn from five different UC Berkeley departments, BREC is one of the largest and most diverse clubs on campus.

BREC’s objective is to enhance student access to the wealth of resources located within Haas, and within the greater UC Berkeley community, to help students educate themselves about real estate and prepare for successful careers in this dynamic industry.

Key Facts / Membership Benefits

Recruiting: We hold two major “members only” recruiting events each year to help our members find internships and career opportunities in the industry. A representative sample of the firms that have “Hired at Haas” in the last few years are shown around the outside of the page.

Analyzing Careers in Real Estate: The best way to learn about real estate is to speak with executives in the industry. The new ACRE program provides a mentor for real estate students who will talk with students about the program and the profession, discuss opportunities in the field and council students on their career strategy. Students will also be paired up with organizations of interest for one-day “shadow” visits.

Scholarships: BREC members win real estate related scholarships every year.

Competitions: Our members participate annually in several well known and highly regarded real estate competitions. Our track record of success is outstanding – in the past, our teams beat out teams from Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg, Wharton, Cornell, UCLA and others in the process.

Conferences: Members are given the opportunity to attend semi-annual conferences, organized by Haas’ own Fisher Center For Real Estate & Urban Economics. These conferences, hosted at Pebble Beach, consistently attract over 150 CEOs, Presidents, Managing Directors and Principals from all aspects of the industry.

Professional Memberships: BREC members automatically become student members ($75 value) in the Urban Land Institute, the leading professional body in the industry. Membership of ULI gives students the opportunity to attend conferences, network with industry professionals and keep up to date with real estate trends.

Property Tours: Property tours are one of the best ways to gain hands on real estate exposure and BREC provides numerous opportunities to visit innovative developments throughout the year.

Alumni Links: Our sister organization, Berkeley Real Estate Alumni (“BREA”) provides BREC members with a mechanism to build long term connections. BREA members are active on campus and in our events and they provide BREC with an accessible linkage to the industry.
