Transportation:
Redwoods is not providing transportation. We have posted the
list of people going, please use that to coordinate and find rides. Also, we're
not leaving at any specific time. Just find the time that works best for your
carpool and head on up, you have a spot on Friday and Saturday night, but if you
need to leave early or arrive late, that's no problem.
PARKING IS LIMITED, so please try and fit as many people per vehicle as
possible!
Directions to Yosemite: I suggest using google maps, but basically you take I
580E to I 205E to HW 120E. There's a number of turns to stay on the right road,
but it's really that simple. From 120E follow signs to the valley until you
reach the campground. (If you get to the valley, you've gone too far!)
Campground Location: Hodgdon Meadows is on the Big Oak Flat Road (Highway 120),
about 45 minutes northwest of Yosemite Valley and adjacent to the Big Oak Flat
Entrance Station
Redwoods will be located at group site B on the map below. When your arrive come
check in with us as to which site to go to. About half the people will be in the
group site and half will be in individual sites nearby.
What to bring:
Weather: Right now it looks like 70 during the day in the valley & low 40s at
night. However, PLEASE, check the weather before leaving. It could hit the 90's
or be below freezing at night or rain, so check before leaving.
The list below is sort of exhaustive, but for many items, only one person in
your group needs them.
Clothes: for hiking, hanging around camp etc. Remember it will likely get into
the 40's at night and be quite chilly after the sun goes down. Pack a poncho in
case of rain.
Shelter: Make sure you have a tent.
Sleeping: Sleeping bag (designed for cold enough temps for the lows at night),
sleeping pad, pillow, beanie for your head
Food & Cooking: Redwoods has dinner Saturday night covered, but you need to
bring all of your other food and drinks, and a means to cook it. The campsites
will have fire ring that can definitely be used to cook with, and some firewood
will be provided, though you might want to purchase additional once you're at
Yosemite. Other reccomended (but not required) items include: Pot / Pan, stove &
gas, utensils, plate / bowl, cup, water bottle.
****One important note is that all food needs to be stored in a bear locker when
you arrive. Do NOT leave food in your car or tent, as bears WILL get it, and
hurt you or your property in the process.
If there's an item you don't have and can't find someone to borrow it from, I
suggest Any Mountain or REI (which also rents gear - check their website for
details). Also, Lombardi Sports is having a rooftop sample sale this weekend,
which can have ridiculous deals.
If you're not part of the Redwoods crew:
Feel free to hang out and join up for everything we're doing. Also, we'll charge
$10 for the meal (burgers, maybe chile if we're ambitious) on Saturday night if
you want to take part in that as well.
