Mitch Kapor
Mitch Kapor has been a leading figure in the computer industry for 20 years. He was the founder and CEO of Lotus Development Corporation and the designer of Lotus 1-2-3, which sparked the desktop revolution in business computing in the 1980's. Mitch's involvement with Accel began in early 1993 when, as a limited partner of Accel, he introduced the firm to UUNET, and in 1995, to RealNetworks. He joined Accel as a full partner in January 1999.
Mitch has been working with entrepreneurs and investing in startups for over fifteen years. Companies he has been directly involved with include Allaire Corporation, Avid, HearMe, PictureTel, Shiva, and Trellix. He is currently on the Board of aQuery (an Accel seed stage investment); Contact Networks; Desktop.com; Groove Networks, founded by Ray Ozzie, creator of Lotus Notes; HotDispatch; Reactivity; and Real Networks
Mitch is also the co-founder and emeritus director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non-profit organization concerned with the development of progressive public policy for the Internet. He is the founder and trustee of the Mitchell Kapor Foundation, which supports programs in the areas of environmental health and the social impact of information technology. Mitch has an undergraduate degree from Yale in linguistics and psychology and is an alumnus (but not graduate) of MIT's Sloan School of Management. He held an Adjunct Professorship at MIT's Media Lab from 1994-1996. His writing has appeared in Scientific American, Wired, Forbes, the Harvard Business Review and the New York Times.
