Kimberley Smith
Kim Smith is the founding president of the New Schools Venture Fund. Kim has been active at the intersection of business, education and entrepreneurship for over 10 years. She began her career as a consultant with a firm specializing in business/education partnerships as that model emerged in the 1980s. Beginning in 1989, Kim was a member of the founding team of Teach For America, a national teacher corps that recruits, trains, places and supports recent college graduates in teaching positions in under-financed rural and urban districts with teacher shortages. After Teach For America, Kim founded and directed BAYAC AmeriCorps, a consortium of 20 youth-serving non-profit organizations dedicated to developing young leaders in education.
Kim's accomplishments beyond the non-profit world include a marketing internship with Silicon Graphics' Education Industry Group, where she focused on the emerging online learning industry. Kim also served as Founding Director of Wine Market Week, a trade show for the wine industry. Kim holds a BA in political science and psychology from Columbia University and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. At Stanford, Kim was Co-President of the Entrepreneur Club and initiated and managed the Stanford Conference on High Tech Entrepreneurship.
