Plans
must include a quantified social or environmental impact to qualify
for the Competition. Here are documents which may serve as examples
of how social impact can be quantified. Teams are encouraged to
study these methods, but are not required to apply them to their
own ventures exactly as shown, or indeed at all, if they find other
methods that are more appropriate. Feel free to modify these examples
as necessary to fit your own venture's case, and to seek out other
models if these are not applicable.
SROI
How-To (SROI.doc)
This
is a step-by-step guide that shows one method of how to conduct
a "Social Return on Investment" (SROI) analysis of an enterprise
with a social impact.
Social and Financial Breakeven
Analysis (breakevenanalysis.xls)
This
is an SROI analysis applied to a Chicago social venture called Studio
Air. It shows the "Market Rate Equivalent" values that were determined
to calculate the hourly value of the training the program provided
free to participants. This value was then compared to earned revenues
and to investments (grant subsidy) required to operate the program
to establish a framework by which the quality of the venture as
a social investment could be measured.
