On April 14, 2001, judges from the Haas Social Venture Competition will select from among 8 competition finalists, winners in the following categories:
Grand Prize Winner - One business plan will be selected as the best all-around plan. The submitting team will receive a significant cash prize.
Honorable Distinction - The best business plan in each of the competition's five vertical categories (health, environment, education, human capital development and community development) will be eligible for honorable distinction within its vertical. Funders in each vertical category will receive information about the honorable distinction recipient in their category. Up to five honorable distinction awards will be granted, although judges may elect not to confer the award in a given vertical, if no plan qualifies.
Outstanding Social Impact Analysis - One team will be awarded a small cash prize for incorporating an outstanding social impact analysis into its business plan. The prize will be awarded for an innovative or comprehensive social impact analysis methodology, rather than the magnitude of a given plan's social impact.
Outstanding Team - One team will be awarded a small cash prize for assembling a management team that is exceptionally qualified to achieve both the financial and social/environmental objectives of the proposed business. While judges will show a preference for teams that include experts on the management team itself, judges will consider teams that are actively advised by a field expert.
